Journey for Art hopes to inspire travelers driven by love of culture.
I have a passion for traveling to destinations that are enriching and Journey for Art shares those places. Give me a museum or UNESCO World Heritage Site to explore any day. I tell you who I am on the about me – Jessica McAvoy page, so I won’t bore you too much here. With many trips to the museums of Madrid under our belts, a handful to the cathedrals and culinary delights of Italy, a short hop across the pond to experience the galleries and palaces of London, a weekend Paris jaunt to wine and dine, and a list of museum heavy U.S. spots, my husband finally convinced me on a trip to Hawaii… which turned into two additional trips there the same year. Intoxicated? Absolutely.
In my mind I pictured Hawaii only about the beach and fun in the sun. I was so wrong. We experienced culture at every turn, including learning traditional Lauhala Weaving with artisans and learning much about the traditions of the Hawaiian people.
On the flight home from our first trip there we came to a decision for change. We were ready for a new adventure in life – aloha really grabbed us at the right moment. On the flight home from our third visit we decided to sell our home of 11 years. We relinquished most (with the exception of an extensive collection of art books, art supplies, and fishing gear!) of our possessions and moved in with some incredibly generous friends for a few months while we planned a 5 month trip across Europe on a motorcycle with a desire to draw the landscapes, explore the cuisine and wine, museum and cathedral hop, study languages, and immerse ourselves in the local communities.
JourneyforArt.com documents our past travel experiences, plans future experiences, and lives in the experiences of the present.
